STÉPHANE DAFFLON

22.07.05 - 03.09.05

We are looking forward to our first solo exhibition by Stéphane Dafflon, and would like to invite you to the opening this Friday, 22 July 2005, from 7 pm onwards.

Stéphane Dafflon (b. 1972) belongs to a generation of young Swiss artists who, through their predominantly non-figurative formal vocabulary, have developed an amalgam of minimalism, Neo Geo, abstract and concrete art without losing themselves in the historical depths of the respective concepts. In addition, they combine their artistic positions with a universal repertoire of signs and codes taken from contemporary visual culture, which they link to architectural and spatial exploration.

Dafflon attracted attention with his large-format wall paintings. Their repetitive patterns are derived chiefly from a reversion to the aesthetics and the production methods of applied graphics, or industrial design.

The artist has created a mural especially for this exhibition. It covers two opposite walls, taking in the empty exhibition space between them in the manner of visual parentheses. New paintings by Dafflon, extremely reduced in formal terms, will also be on show as well as works belonging to the edition "No picture available" which is an ongoing collaboration between Francis Baudevin, Philippe Decrauzat and Stéphane Dafflon.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11 am - 6 pm

The gallery will be closed from 6 - 22 August for the summer break.
